Across the continent of Emiraine, black chasms ravage the land, bringing with them monsters from ancient times. In the ruins of an once mighty Empire, a god-king waits to woken. And in the quiet, echoing halls of the Glass Palace, a plot is carried out that could unite two kingdoms together, or destroy what little remains of their fragile peace. Orphaned by the Abyssal War and sold into the service of assassins as a child, Rylen has only ever known a life where trust was a myth and love was a lie. But when she is dragged into a plan that could either shape the future between the four kingdoms or ruin what little peace there is left, she must decide where her alliances are. Rylen quickly finds that there is more to survival than a quick wit and a sharp tongue when she finds herself fighting in a war no one knows how to win. Rylen quickly finds that Ylaisse is a far different place than the palaces of Bazgrik, and that allies might just be worth the price of trust. Though she discovers a kindred spirit in the pirate prince, Necalli, and the heir to the summer throne, Rosaline, she also quickly discovers enemies in the halls of the sun as well. Tensions and rivalries are quick to brew, threatening the stability of her new home and forcing Rylen to question just what she is willing to give up in pursuit of her kingdoms survival and just how long she can keep her secret from getting out. But when a noble is found dead, quickly followed by another, Rylen finds that her secret might not be the only thing the fate of everything rests upon. As she races against the clock to find the murderer and avoid being accused herself, Rylen unravels a history between the four kingdoms lost to time, and discovers that her role in it might be greater than she'd ever imagined.
