13 December 2015. From our local newspaper; a writing contest!

** (29 December 2015) Well, the holidays were too much fun, and I didn't enter this contest. However, I will finish this story because it's fun, and it highlights my local community. **

NOTE: Chapter 1 is written by The Daily Courier's resident novelist, Arlene Hittle. I will write the chapters that follow Arlene's.

You long to get back the Christmas magic you had as a kid-the joy of childhood-and have been trying your best to. Tuesday, 6 October 2015 For Amali, Christmas 2015 This story began in the September school holidays 2015, when Amali was staying with me and had trouble getting to sleep at night. After trying all of the old remedies I could think of, counting sheep, relaxation, deep breathing, I came up with an idea I thought may help her. I suggested that we both think of a story that night while we were trying to go to sleep. I sometimes have problems getting to sleep as well, and I've used this in one form or another at times with some success. So, when she asked me "what sort of story?" I searched around in my head for a story theme that would interest Amali. What I then came up with was "how about .....The girl who would... (thinking hard).....wear... (digging around in my head for a subject) and then the word "Green" came. We had our title. Next day, I asked Amali if this had worked, had she thought of a story. She said it had a bit, and she told me hers. Can you remember your story Amali? That night she wanted mine. Thinking this would be a one off, one night venture, I started with the very bare bones of the story that follows. Little did I realise at the time, that Amali would want another chapter every night! From then on, until she went home after the holidays, I struggled through telling the story, coming up with some events as I went, and giving myself a few sleepless nights trying to come up with something for the next night. The story was left, when Amali returned home and to school, somewhere near where Essie meets her grandmother. Amali has asked me a couple of times to continue, but at the time, I got stuck with where to go next. So here I the finished story hope you enjoy!

Once upon a time, I was your typical good girl, doing my job like a total elf star, no complaints. Even with the little "gift" I was born with (aka my disability), I handled life pretty well. But let me tell you, luck's never been my plus-one. What am I talking about? Oh, just my lovely name-and the Christmas curse that comes with it! Every year, without fail, while my family's out decking the halls, I'm over here getting snowed under with the worst disasters. So, yeah, all I want for Christmas is for this nightmare of a season to be over. But this year? Oh, I've really hit the Christmas tree topper. Ever since I plopped myself down on Santa's lap at my office party and made a special wish, it's been one yule disaster after another! And now, I'm stuck in this sleigh ride from hell with that red-suited nightmare, forced to follow him wherever he jingles. Sure, he might be a total angel under that fake beard-mysterious and all-but I'm not about to let myself get wrapped up like some Christmas present under the tree. My brain's still in one piece, thanks. So, seriously, sweet baby Jesus, how did a nice executive assistant like me end up sleighing through this wild holiday misadventure full of danger, romance, and all the holly jolly chaos of Christmas?!
