That's exactly the case for fifteen year old Kevin, because the years leading up until his sudden death he always went unnoticed─his only friends being an angry, potty mouthed goth girl, and a goofy, video game crazed boy.
But when his friends become obsessed with finding his killer more than he is, and he's faced with the decision to either stay earthbound or move on to the afterlife, he's faced with one question:

You know....when you first hear that fast beating heartbeat.... everything else melts away, the stress of finding out you're pregnant at 16, your boyfriend ghosting you after you showed him the test, your parents abandoning you when you need them most.....it all goes away and you finally found what you been looking for all along....unconditional love and that's exactly what I felt towards you my love...my sun flower...my baby......God gave me 2 years to be your mother and now the memories hurt......love I am so sorry mommies coming. Dani Winters was on her way home from her friends house, listening to her son talk random things when suddenly a car came out of nowhere and rammed the side of her car, she slowly opened her eyes only to groan out a gasp and tried to turn to check on Tommy.....only to let out an agonizing scream after and lost consciousness. The doctors tried to save her, she came back a few times but she didn't want to....she didn't want to live in a world without her son....they fought to bring her back....well she fought to stay dead, so what happens when the next time she wakes she's in a coffin wearing a 20s dress and having the most hungry inducing thirst.....and her only thought 'It hurts.' Oh no, not one of these stories again where someone angelic and heroic saves the damsel in distress. If only I was that lucky. My heart stopped beating. The beginning of that description was slightly exaggerated. The Angel of Death. One of the only creatures known that was capable of settling the boundaries of heaven on earth. The only creature capable of making one of the Devil's darkest deals to my loving mother; a second chance for her daughter. This comes with consequences of course. Everything you know about Death is wrong. Death is not natural, Death is not normal, Death is not doleful, and Death is far from mercenary. Death blends into the shadows like coal against the most atramentous sky. Death walks the earth with his cursed, monstrous and exotic features, his enticing voice and betraying alluring eyes. Death deceives, scratches, and plays with your mind, until you slowly and painfully loose your grip on reality. He'll make you believe he's a different person, that there's a sliver hope for him. Hope for you. Death is close. Humanity have always questioned their mortality. The world; riddled with disease and crime, each day gifted with a sense of dread. "I'm getting older." Humans have evolved, fought wars, overcome the impossible and survived as a species, until now. Now that they question death and what comes after. Among the humans are a group of people, hiding in plain sight. Those that inexplicably are able to connect with their souls on an entirely different level to most. They have no name, hidden purely by disbelief, in a society that doubts those that are different. How do you name something that you refuse to acknowledge exists? The Misvan Gatu is an underground government controlled by an unknown force. It is their mission to find a cure for the death of a soul, not caring who they may destroy in the process. Misguided and twisted by an evil unknown they are driven by the need to know more about the afterlife. Breaking down barriers and finding answers to questions best left unasked. If the soul could be transferred then that human life could continue, couldn't it? And if there was a way of stopping death and harnessing the power of the human soul what else could we accomplish?
