Rune wanders the forest. Rune is part of the pack. Rune howls at the moon, but she is not like the other animals. For one, she walks on hind legs. She has no fur. She makes vocalizations that the others perceive as odd. Problem is, Rune does not know why she does these things. The forest is all she has ever known.
Then, something terrible happens and Rune is captured. The world outside the forest is unlike anything she could imagine. Not even in her wildest dreams.

She did not like company. Only 2 years ago a raven wouldn't stop bothering her. Surprisingly, this bird became her beloved companion. He helps her with her job as a spirit-and distracts her at times. The Spirit Wolf's job is to bring life and to pass life. Bringing life is to help plants grow and to watch over all of the new mothers in spring. To pass life means to let a corpse sink into the ground and become one with earth itself. If the creature that passed had a good life, the Spirit would put them into the afterlife. If they died a very unfair death or was too young for their life to be over, she would help them reincarnate. She could not reincarnate a creature every time it was killed, though. It would only make them have infinite lives. The Spirit Wolf seemed unhappy when she did her job, but she enjoyed seeing the faces of pure happiness of the new mothers.
