"I remember the old days.
I remember being able to play outside without a care in the world, not having to worry about the evils that hardly even existed back then. I remember being able to walk home from school and laugh with my friends, and have fun without thinking about my surroundings or what could be lurking in the shadows. I remember when school was about learning math and English and how volcanoes work. I can still feel (and laugh about) the anger I felt when I would watch Saturday morning cartoons and my sister would fight me for the TV remote. The scent of my mom's coffee is still vaguely there if I think hard enough.
I remember when the world was still beautiful. I remember a world full of hope and happiness, not the one full of fear and darkness and bloodshed and all the things kids shouldn't ever have to experience.
Things have changed a lot since then.
We weren't allowed to play outside anymore, we couldn't walk home from school without being chaperoned by an armed soldier, or at least without being armed ourselves if we were old enough and trained enough. We started being taught about how to wield a knife for protection and how to ration food instead of math and English. My mom and sister weren't there for long after everything changed.
It happened five years ago, when I was fifteen.
It happened five years ago, when the sky opened up and the monsters came to ruin this world.
Good thing humans are fighters."
It's been five years since the monsters mysteriously invaded Earth, and humans have finally been making progress in fighting back. Hope is slowly being restored, one warrior at a time.
Especially with the help of one girl.
