In late 2025 all goverments were over run by a single man, this man had a deadly virus, the name of this virus is still unknown to this day. By the only 5,980 survivors of the deadly attacks. 
On the night of july 14th these bombs were positioned over every town, city and village in the world. They were made to wipe all human life that he deemed unfit to live. Not all of them worked however some just fell, there wiring jumbled. This didn't happen to all of them most of them detonated wiping out millions. 
This gas rewired the brain. Causing people to do indescribable things to those not infected, no they don't eat the brain like in the zombie movies,no. They strip the human body of flesh and muscle tissue so all thats left if they get you is a pile of bones surrounded in blood. 
With gangs and walkers everywhere if you live the best thing to do is hide.
