Darkness. It’s the opposite of light, I guess. Everyone knows that like everyone knows that noise is the opposite of silence. But some people get certain things mixed up, like love and hate. They’re not opposites. The opposite of love is indifference as well as the opposite of hate is peace. But plain as day, everyone knows that death is the opposite of life. But do they know? Does everyone know just how bittersweet that balance is? I do. I’ve been around for a long, long time…I was always bad at math, so I may have miscalculated but if memory serves me right, I should be about 516 years old. No, that doesn’t sound right. Oh wait, if I carry the—never mind, I’m 131 years old, eternally 17. But what would that matter? I’m immortal with probably the most heartbreaking job there is. I’m a Guardian. Not the kind in which you think. I belong in the darkness. I know what you’re thinking—am I like the Boogeyman? I sure hope not. You see…I’m different. I’m known as many things but I do have one main name. I’m Death. Nice to meet you, I’m the Grim Reaper and this is my story.
