“Oh, I don’t wanna go,” Danielle said, her southern accent thick. She looked down at her usual cowboy boots she put on and sighed. Henry lifted her head up and kissed her softly on the lips. “It’ll be alright,” he nodded taking both her hands. For a second, she believed him, but then her mind started to wonder off of the things that might happen once she left.
“You should do this. Do it for me?” he asked her. She smiled sadly. “Fine,” she nodded, her stomach twisting into a knot once she turned around. Her truck was already loaded with her bags, waiting for her to get in and drive off. “I love you,” she said looking up at Henry’s eyes, trying not to burst out crying. “I love you too,” he said. “See you later,” she said walking backwards. She finally got into the truck and started it up, the thing roaring to life. Then, without looking back, she slowly put it in drive, as dust rose from the ground and circled her wheels as she drove on the dirt road.
Once she looked in the review mirror for the first time, she couldn’t see Henry anymore. He was just a speck among the trees and bushes. Nothing would ever be the same again after she left. But she knew it was for the best, for both of them.
