Tremors have forced the elite of Pompeii to flee the city, leaving everything they own behind. Quintus Poppaeus is one of the elite to take to the seas, but not without safeguarding his riches. He has trusted his most loyal slave Caius to keep watch over his treasure room in case thieves try to take advantage of his absence. Caius is not alone. Three other slaves are with him, but they are not too eager to stick around and see what Vesuvius has in store. Inspired by true events, Breath of Ash looks into the lives of Pompeii's forgotten citizens right up until the city's destruction. Breath of Ash reads quickly, and keeps the tension high as one of Earth's most destructive forces gets ready to go off.

From the novel's back cover blurb... 'I'm not of your world, but I had a front-row seat to a little-known drama that nearly brought about your demise. Truth be told, I've actually been wanting to tell you about this saga for some time. It's a short tale, relatively speaking. It does, though, begin before the birth of Christ. There's a man named Quintus at the heart of it. First, he was a Roman Centurion, that is until he ended up in China, where he learned a thing or two from an old Taoist. Fast forward to today, and he still walks among you. You should know what he did through history wasn't done for himself; it was done for you, and it was done in the face of the greatest evil known to mankind.'
