In the time of Alfred the Great, King of the West Saxons, the Great Heathen Army came to enslave and destroy... Trystyn Campion, heir to Ealdorman Corfe, was a battle hardened warrior leading men for his king. He had not seen his betrothed in eleven years. With one visit from an angel, Trystyn is forced to face his future when he is charged to protect her. Lady Aelswyn Newbury, daughter of a Duk, was a gentle spirit, usually. But when it came to her betrothed, she was a hellcat full of mischief. When an angel charges them both with a duty to protect their king, Trystyn and Aelswyn must join forces to help save the king and Wessex. A traitor is in the midst collaborating with the enemy and will stop at nothing to prevent them from fulfilling their duty. Can they come together to defeat the enemy and find each other along the way?

3 book of the series Feeling the anger well up, she slowly rose from the table, " No one will come and save us! Alfred will marry a Mercian lady, and they will form a strong alliance to overthrow these heathens" -her eyes bore deeply into Elfreda's- "and the only thing left of us will be our mangled corpses hanging over the rampart. Men will not save us, for we are simply pawns in their game!" Warning: contains adult themes (gore, intercourse) I don't own Vikings
