Charis would always remember the moment she first laid eyes on him. The feeling of her breath leaving her lungs on a silent gasp, her heart clenching and stopping, the sparkles of shock running all the way down to her toes.
He stood there in the door way, taunting her with his presence, stealing the air from her lungs and the blood from her veins.
Time stood still as she stared at him and he stared back, each of them daring the other to move.
The seconds at that fateful moment continued to tick by but the two of them stood frozen in time, the importance of that second in time hanging over their heads.
Her heart suddenly burst back into action, pounding out an unsteady rhythm and a shaky gasp filled air back into her starved lungs.
A ghost of a smile graced his lips from across the room and she wondered momentarily if her knees might actually give out, their strength suddenly abandoning her.
The second was over and time resumed, but neither of them moved just yet.
She still remember her thoughts at that moment, even if she had tried to deny it for so long. She had denied herself the happiness allowed to her because she refused to believe.
But her thoughts in the moment had been clear as day, pounding inside her head, screaming at her.
Well really it had only been one thought. One clear strong thought, reflected perfectly in his own eyes.
