They were secretly together for years until they decided to tell the prince's parents about Catrina, they were shocked but agreed to let Christopher and Catrina get married if they were truly in love, which they really were. When this happened, Catrina was about 20. Life was great until 4 years later she realized that the only reason she was there was because she was always wearing and touching the amulet. She went to the castle wizard and he told her something that would change and break down Catrina's life.
