At seventeen you are not supposed to take care of a family. Of an alcoholic father who can't face the fact his wife left him and his kids, a younger brother who can't handle any type of pressure, and of yourself. For the past six years Anna had balanced out her life to avoid any pain by shutting people out, keeping her emotions, and lying to everyone, including herself. But can one person change that?

I ran downstairs into the living room, my heart pounding as I found all my brothers gathered around Nefeli. Her eyes were frantic, scanning the room, desperately searching for me. The scream that bastard had let out earlier must have reached her... The moment our eyes met, she practically threw herself at me, wrapping her arms around me so tightly I could barely breathe. I stood frozen for a moment, unsure of what to do. I hugged her back anyway... Even though I had no idea what was going on. "Thank God you're safe" she murmured in my ear, her voice trembling, leaving me even more confused. I glanced at my brothers. They all looked just as lost as I was. Except for Aiden and Alex. They were motioning for me to hold on. "Of course I'm okay, Nefeli. What happened?" I asked, my heart tightening. I hated seeing her like this, so worried and panicked. "I-I heard Alex and Aiden talking in Italian!" she stammered, her eyes wide with panic. "They said something about the Mafia! Are we being threatened by the Mafia?" Her voice cracked, and tears threatened to spill from her brown eyes. The room fell silent for a moment. My brothers exchanged looks, and then, without warning, we all burst into laughter. Nefeli stared at us, completely confused. Cole, finally calming down, wiped his eyes and looked at her with a smile. "Love" he said, his voice smooth, "we're not being threatened by the Mafia." he let the words settle in the air for a second. "We are the Mafia." • • • _______________________________________________________ ⚠️ DISCLAIMER ⚠️ Mentions of abuse, violence, harsh language, bad mental health, and light depression! Crying: A Dystopian Novel

27 parts Complete

《《《《《This is some VERY old writing of mine. Enter if you dare clichés, terrible grammar, and a story with next-to-no scenery descriptions. I might revisit this idea later, so I'm leaving it up for now.》》》》》 Crying. It's an act to show emotion. It is only supposed to be seen by those around you when it happens, but here, it's different. In this dystopian world, you can see, via hologram, the last time someone cried. There are people who use this to manipulate and antagonize others. Anna is the center of our story. She's a 16 year old girl who has under gone much heartache due to the dystopian setting. She has made a promise to her older brother, Drew, while he was on his death bed, to protect their younger siblings- a promise she hopes she doesn't break. She is very tough, but fear is a constant no matter who you are. In the story, fear is ruling her; the fear that she's failing Drew. If she, her family, and her neighbors were not in this setting, she'd be perfectly happy. But she can't be happy now, not with everything that's going on.
