Millie Doherty doesn't understand people- or rather she can't understand them. Millie is special, but she fails to see how incredible she is. When she looks at herself she can never get past the fact that she is autistic, and fails to see that she is fiercely intelligent and has an in impeccable imagination. 

After the death of her mother, Millie begins to find life very difficult. And that's when she discovers the Cloud Nine Hotel Specialists who have offered escapism from reality since 1982. As Millie becomes more and more entangled in the world she has created, she becomes unable to separate reality and dreams. 

Millie goes to cloud Nine to escape her deepest fears and sorrows however when she meets Danny- the literal boy next door. Everything, she knows begins to change. Can Danny help Millie realise that she can't keep running away from her problems? And can he be her saviour and help her face them?
