Asta Fallbaron is wanted by the crown for a number of things: treason and conspiring with the enemy, mostly. She can't help it. The enemy just happens to be her father.

The country of Ulmindle is engulfed in a bloody Civil War, and Asta is part of the rebellion, the Crimson Way. They fight for the dethronement of the Mad Queen, a blight upon their country. Asta's father is the leader of the rebellion, which makes Asta and her sister VERY important people. It doesn't help their cause when Asta is captured by the Crown and taken to Rakbar, where she is put to the test as a form of entertainment for the corrupt royalty. 
Something else isn't right, though. The Mad Queen is queen for a reason, but that reason may not be... Totally human. Or safe. Asta will unravel the mystery of the Mad Queen, or die trying.

Asta will go into this place as a woman with a cause, and emerge as a champion of the people, and maybe with a love to last a lifetime. Now she is a symbol, a symbol of what her country was built on, a chance for renewal.

But beyond her world, into the realms of others, a much more powerful war is taking place, and Asta will see, willing or not, the secrets of Ulmindle released.
