"It terrifies me how talented you are turning your emotions on and off. How you can be so kind and loving one moment then cold like ice the next. Whenever you open your mouth, I never know whether it's going to be I love you or its over." He looked at me, darkness clouding the beautiful emerald color I knew they were, and in that moment, I felt it. I felt it in my gut and my heart clenched because I knew exactly what he was going to say. So instead of falling to my knees when he responded, like I would have if I didn't prepare myself for his answer, I simply nodded and wiped my tears away. "Then stop wasting your time thinking about what I'm going to say. I'll finally tell you what you always wanted to know." He paused for a moment. During his pause that seemed to be going on for years I just wanted to reach out and comfort his broken heart. The unknown was no longer 'unknown' nor was it known but it was my worst nightmare. "It's over."

"What's a sweet woman like you doing here all by herself?" His voice is low and raspy, it's hot. He reaches down and tucks a strand of my hair behind my left ear, waiting for my reply. "I'm not sweet. Go back to your table." I tell him firmly. A glimmer of shock passes over his eyes, it's probably the first time he's been rejected. "Playing hard to get, I like it. I don't follow instructions though." he tilts his head as he speaks. "You're a tough shell to crack, I don't know how to read you." "Maybe that's because I don't want you to read me, maybe my pages are better off hidden." I respond, keeping him on his toes and being completely honest. // Maddison Levine and Harry Styles met one night at a grungy bar, she knows he's too pure for her.
