Suddenly, she was transported to a deserted area. Ice everywhere, layers upon layers. Small icicles hanged from the ceiling, glistening as light reflected through the cave. Riley slowly descended down the steps of the main hall, rubble and rocks scattered along the walls of the curved staircase.
It was known to all humans, that magic exists. All types of magic, including powers that can create life out of nothing to making bugs into human dummies. You are given a random power at birth. Powers are rated and determines your future. If you are a one star, you are a commoner. Two stars get to fight in armies, and they are the protectors of the magic world. And three stars, you'll be elected to be on council, if you deny, you... won't be going back home. No one has ever seen a four star since the king died. He wasn't a king, but people gave him that title.

No joys, minimal suffering, because there's only so much a heart can take before it calls it quits. And honestly? Fuck it, I'd been through enough. ... But he changed everything. In the worst, most terrifying way possible. From this abyss, I may never climb back out.
