When Penny Fitzgerald leaves Gumball Watterson for another girl, Gumball becomes depressed and begins to let out his inner toddler by throwing fits out of anger toward Penny, after cutting his wrist and attempting suicide.
Not long after Gumball becomes depressed, Darwin starts feeling like Gumball is getting all the attention. Darwin begins seeking the attention by pretending to cry so that he will be held and comforted as well.

Depression is hard to deal with, all the time. No matter who or what the circumstances, it's hard. Lots of people have different ways of expressing it; Penny hides in the shadows. Penny has trust issues, and cannot rely on anyone other than herself. It's better to get the job done yourself, right? Craig doesn't believe in that; he thinks everyone should have someone to rely on- someone to trust.
