Riley Heart had never considered herself to be brave. Whenever she looked in a mirror she saw a coward, a girl who couldn't keep her parents together or hold a relationship that lasted longer than a Mento. After a terrible accident involving her friends Opal and Phoebe, Riley decided that she needed to change. She was tired of being known around school as a delinquent and a slut and instead became Ms. Perfect. She did as she was told, got good grades, and was in line to become the school's valedictorian. She was smart. She was pretty. She was fine. So why didn't she feel happy?
Then came Taylor; the new girl. She always had a smile on her face and an obsession with bows and boybands. And, for some reason, she decided to make it her mission to be Riley's best friend. Now, while dealing with a very persistent perky girl, Riley had to also take on the infamous Scott Wilder, her rival for valedictorian, and partner for her English project.
Can Riley fend off the two of them until the end of the year? Or will her perfect facade crack under the pressure? Most of all, can she gain the courage to face what happened that night with her two old friends? And can she finally, finally tell her parents how she really feels about the separation?
