Adam McCarthy is a normal sixteen year old boy. Blends in with the crowd, and isn't a loser. He has always lived in the same small town of River Valley with his grandma Rebecca and his grandma's two sisters Trudy and Margaret.
Gizelle Taylor is one of five. She lives with her two older cousins Winter and Emerald. Gizelle's parents died a while back, causing her to move in with Winter and Emerald. She enters River Valley high school and is immediately labelled as a weirdo, not wearing the right clothes or make-up. Gizelle also has a black star birthmark under her left eye. Everything about her screams mystery, and Adam is determined to be in the know.
