The Willis family has been struggling since Mr.Willis left the family when Ronda Willis (the middle child) was 19 and graduating high school; which was big because Ronda is the first person to graduate in the family besides her brother but he never went college like Ronda is going to. Rick Willis is the father of Rick Jr. Willis, Ronda E. Willis and Camille T. Willis. He fathered them until Rick was 16, Ronda was 6 and Camille was just 2 years old. Rick left his family to be with a rich white woman who was cheating on her husband. After the family became very corrupted, Rick Jr. (18) left to elope with Katie O'Brien (16) later having three kids. Ronda left, got a job at an art studio,bought an apartment and started applying to colleges. Camille still lives with Claire (Mama) Willis being only 17 years old she doesn't really have choice.
In this story a young woman named Ronda Willis who has been labeled a 'Colored Woman' all her life speaks up in college about different cultures and races. Ronda inspires many college teachers who send emails to important people, gets her a spot to write a story about her life.
