He's given up on ever getting a tattoo, on ever finding a soul mate, and on ever being loved. Until he meets Kealleigh a month after her 18th birthday. (This is a short story. Please do not directly steal my ideas, like the tattoos for example because I made them up entirely on my own. This short story is a complete work of fiction inspired by some other soulmate stories that I've read over time. However my system doesn't work the same way theres does and was purely inspired by a combination of things, and not copied in any way shape or form. Thank you for reading!)

My parents were soul mates; my grandparents were too; my brother had met his a few months ago and he’d been ridiculously in love since then. Everything around me seemed to work out just the way it was supposed to but I couldn’t help but be really skeptical about the whole thing. A part of me thought that people felt like they had to spend the rest of their life with the person that stood in front of them when their timer read ‘O’ and therefor convinced themselves that they were in love. Love was more than that to me; and no tattoo was going to tell me who I had to give my heart to, that was for sure.

Everybody has a tattoo; they could be absolutely anywhere on your body. The tattoo begins appearing on the person's sixteenth birthday. Nobody has the same tattoo as they reflected the person's personality. They could be similar, but they are never duplicated. Depending on the person's soulmates mood, the colour of the tattoo changes. When they're mad, it turns a mix of deep red and orange, when they are embarrassed it changes to a bright yellow, when they are upset it turns blue, when they are feeling lonely it turns purple and so on. The only time the tattoo will light up and turn white is when the person and their soulmate are in a thirty foot radius and when you lock eyes with your soulmate, it begins to heat up. That's when you know you've finally found them.
