Jangbir Singh is a twenty year old Sikh. He has a family in Punjab, a sister, a mother, a father and a Fiance. Mischevious but gallant he signs up for the army. He'd be a coward not to. His family have a rich history embellished with legends of brave warriors.

Then there is Alastair Fletcher. An Australian orphan. He now at the age of twenty works as an ostler for a rich family, the Aldersons. He's in love with their daughter, a raging beauty by the name of Claire, but he is sure her family will never let them marry. The glory of war draws him in so he signs up.

As the war rages around them in Gallipoli an unlikely friendship forms between the two. But is their friendship strong enough to over come the horrors of war?
