From the ancient castle of Stonehold to the bustling city of Highmount the land of Estros is at war. The King of the Stonelands and Lord of Stonehold, Harwyn Gray, marches South on the King of Summer to find his brother and bring him back home. But as he rides he finds loyalty to be rare in his camp and must navigate the intrigue that surrounds him if he wishes to win the war, while also protecting his family and his son who has ridden with him.

But Stonehold is not only where plots and secrets lie. To the South where a crude man sits on the throne his brother now must deal with the plots that aim at himself and his King while measuring his own power to take what is his. Loyalty in the city of Highmount is impossible to find and Warren must battle with both himself and those who seek to destroy him. 

And the return of magic puts everything at a stop as true saegi's haven't been seen in hundreds of years in Estros. To the West their are many who con others into believing that they hold magical properties but now a young boy must deal with forthcoming visions of the future which are soaked in blood and violence. What he will do with these visions is up to him, and he must bear the weight alone.
