Kill me Again

I am twenty-one years of age. I have been that way for five lifetimes - each lasting no more than twenty five years. To do so, I have killed five lives. I have killed five lives of the women who were intended to be mine. And I plan to do so again.

People were slow to notice as the world begun to stop ageing. Joy rose as people considered the prospect of being immortal. But humans are meant to die.

There was one thing that could re-start the ageing process. A soulmate. When someone met their soulmate, they aged. The only way to stop the process was to kill them yourself. Those were the only rules that were linked to the new ageing process. And horror rose with the discovery that humans were still, in fact, mortal.

Kill or be killed. That became the rule. Romance died long ago - be it with a knife to the heart or a gun to the head. As people learned the only way to live on was to kill those who were intended for them, they began to slaughter each soulmate that came their way.

But beings are meant to die. And love is meant to live. If half a soul lives on, so must the other. If half a soul walks the planet, the other will follow. And soon enough one will find its missing half.

Only to die again.
