Nearly 1,000 years into the future, (the year 2994 AD (anno domini) in our time, or the year 76 AD (after Dearth) in the Tribes time) humanity rises from an apocalypse that wiped out most of the worlds population. People thrive in this new earth, but they are without technology, medicine, or scientific advances, and since so few survived, they have learned to rely on what was left; history, mythology, and magic. Throughout this new earth, countries and continents were wiped out, land shifted due to massive earthquakes, and a flood brought a new geography in its wake. Now, only 6 Peoples remain. The Selkies; descendants of the Gaelic tribes whose mythology wove tales of mortal men falling in love with Seal women. The Reapers; farmers whose ancestors believed the land had an audible voice if humans would only listen. The Flatfoots; their ancestors believed in an old form of justice, break the law and we break you. The Gilders; descendants of a blue blooded aristocracy who now live in the dead bones of a shriveled city. The Prowlers; men who have taken up the old ways of magic, whose lineage was of Nordic warriors with dragon ships. And finally, The Lorcans; beings that are not quite animal, but not quite human. They are men with feathered wings, and women with the fury of a wolf.
Something has changed, and the fresh waters are drying up. The seas and oceans are turning to acid, and there are rumors the trees are waking. Long dead enemies are rising anew, and alliances are breaking. The fate of the world is tied to a vengeful assassin, a slave girl in love with her master, a blind story-teller, and a rogue Lorcan. Time will only tell how their lives will weave together, and whether or not this new earth can be saved.
