Hi, I'm Maika Dare. I'm just your average student at Riverdale Secondary who gets good grades and stays out of trouble. Unlike most people in my school, I'm not concerned with popularity or parties. All I want to do is win a scholarship to Harvard and become a doctor.
Because of my 'differentiating' lifestyle, I'm kinda set apart from everyone else...
Not that I care anyways. I'd rather be by myself.
However, this would soon have to change...
My English teacher has always been a loose screw, and she has this unfaltering belief in the possibility of equality and peace in the world. She's so concerned with the school's 'social hierarchy', that I guess she thought to herself, "How can I save this generation from destroying themselves?" And I suppose that's how she came up with our new project: "Squad Goals".
For this project, the class was randomly split into groups of 6 people maximum. Every week, we will have to hangout, do something exciting, and (I quote) "Share our dreams and interests." We also have to have a 'one-on-one' outing with each member of the squad. At the end of the term, the squad must be as close to each other as 3 peas in a pod. Well, 6 in this case.
At first, I didn't think it would be so bad. I was willing to cooperate with anyone if it would mean an A+. However, my confidence went down the drain when I got my squad. It's not that they smell, or fart, or pick their noses, etc.,
It's just that I used to be friends with all of them...
-------------------
I studied the familiar faces of my childhood. They studied me and each other back. Danna was shyly glancing at the group, while Lena spun her basketball. Jourdan and Arwend whistled awkwardly and shuffled their feet. Priya glared at everyone with a fire that could never be quenched.
"Hey, guys," I gulped. "Long time no see..."
No one said anything back... If this was an anime, sweat drops would be rolling down my heated face.
Yup. This would be a looong term.
