once there was a girl who sat on the corner of the town square waiting for her mother. everyday she would wait at the exact spot where her mother told her that she would be when she came back. the girl waited for almost five years for her mother to return. "i promise i will return. even if i am old and weak i shall see you again." her mother had told her when she was five years old. "bring me back the first thing that you touch." said the girl. "that way you can look at it and think of me the whole time that you are away." five years mother has been gone. the girl was thinking as she kept looking around the town square. "yet another unsuccessful night. here i hid this for you." the chef told the girl. "thank you." she said. "and there is always tomorrow. she promised me, and mother never breaks her promises." "just give it up. you've believed that for five years. and for five years she hasn't showed up like she 'promised'."
