I watch as the life drains out of her face. Her dark skin goes deathly pale and blood seeps out of her wound. Her eyes well up with tears but she fights them. I stroke her beautiful braids and let a single tear fall from my eye. She reaches up weakly and wipes it off. Flashing a smile she squeakily speaks "Thank you. I've never had a friend before." Prologue I used to have a nightmare when I was younger. It was always the same order and the same impact. It started with the warmth of sand consuming my feet. I looked up to see a warzone.
