Top of the World

"I put my pencil to paper and carefully printed my heading at the top: "Brooklyn Jenkins, August 27th, Hr. 1". Then I began to write. "The euphoric feeling of being on top of the world," I began, "isn't something that is easily come by. You have to build up to it with hard work, dedication, and perseverance. To me, the feeling of being on top of the world is something you can only get if you earn it. A classic example of this is a distance runner."" So maybe fifteen year old Brooklyn isn't the most popular kid in her grade. She isn't the volleyball star, the class president, or the teacher's pet. But being a sophomore in high school is teaching her to look for blessings everywhere, even when things are rough at school or at home. And being a distance runner teaches her that you don't have to be perfect to be on top of the world.
