The apocalypse was neither a fiery blaze from the heavens, nor had the earth froze over for an eternity. Civilization ended because all the people had fallen asleep. The science behind this epidemic is... widely disputed at best, the bodies of the afflicted are preserved, there is no heart beat, only slight traces of brain activity. Wherever there are dreams, beasts come and devour them along with the soul who brought that dream into existence. Hunters and huntresses, are tasked with he extermination of these monsters in the dream world. To prevent the body on the physical plane from reanimating and progressing the virus. When souls are devoured, the body which serves as the anchor decays and becomes a stillborn, a sentient husk without a previous identity.
As for the waking world, there are luckily, a few places left that act as bastions and places of refuge. People are no longer found outside of these citadels, unless they are hunters like myself or an ambassador, of the new races who established their foothold on in this solar system. Or they could be a race of Fae who has stumbled into this plane of existence because of overpopulation in the astral plane. It's a new world, brimming with possibilities. I made it my mission to assemble a task force of warriors and find a cure in whatever form it may be in. There were already six generations before mine, and each of them failed as they approached the truth. They left behind their techniques, knowledge gained from their purges, and equipment, to better prepare a defense for each coming generation against an ever adapting and ruthless force of destruction.
In five years time the world will end or we'll overcome the virus and reclaim this sector of the universe. Good news, the virus is also on its last legs. Bad news, how do you stop destruction and ruin itself? All previous generations died from this force at the very end, so I have to ask.
Can we kill this entity before it erases the entirety of the universe?
Season 4 of The Virus Within
Trinity is familiar with zombies, being one herself, but when strange zombies start appearing, she realizes that the world she knew might be changing yet again.
When a dangerous set of scientific notes are discovered, Trinity and her friends don't realize anything is wrong until a frantic radio call comes in. Unaware of the notes, they race to the south and struggle to determine where the strange zombies came from. The zombies are unlike any ranks previously seen, and they aren't as predictable. Some have new tricks hidden up sleeves, forcing any Stronghold they encounter to quickly adapt to the new challenge or risk being overrun. Secrets never remain hidden, and zombie apocalypses never make life easy.
