Marcus couldn't believe his eyes as they fell upon the three mutilated men on the floor. Gashed open with a large knife the woman still held, their bellies were completely hollowed out. There were no organs to be found, and from the gashes that covered the men's arms, Marcus could tell they hadn't gone down without a fight. With horror, Marcus was able to locate the organs, having to suppress his urge to vomit.
The intestines hung around the proximity of the shop's interior, mimicking the appearance of rusted Christmas tinsel. They were still wet with blood, painting the floors and display shelves with the sticky redness of Christmas joy. The organs, such as the lungs and Kidneys, were hung on a fake little oak tree that was promoting fire safety with a Smokey the Bear cutout. Smokey was holding this little tray that should have been filled with safety matches, but instead held three hearts. Marcus watched as one of the hearts fatally tried to keep its duties and quivered until it ultimately died.

Marcus Oliver was already having a really bad day, which only gets worse with the introduction of his weird son who is constantly letting loose useless factoids, a nut-case mother in law who cannot let go of every bad thing he ever did, and a lunatic wearing a fedora who is technically a cyborg.
Oh yeah, and there are rabid humans bent on destroying everything in their path.

This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Marcus narrowed his eyes at her and brought a hand up, tangling his hand in her hair and tugging on it so she was looking up at him. "You're asking for it, Mila. I could have you moaning my name and begging for more in seconds," he said, squeezing her ass and rubbing himself against her. Mila inhaled sharply and let out an involuntary whimper, craving to be closer to him, with nothing in the way. "You're all talk," she said breathlessly. "All talk, no action. You talk too much," she said, looking up at him with darkened eyes. "I'll believe it when I see it." Marcus growled, planting another hard kiss on her lips, pinning her to the wall with his body as his hands slid down lower on her ass, fingers curling around her inner thighs and getting dangerously close to where she was already wet for him. "You're going to eat those words, Mila," he said against her lips, pushing off the wall and carrying her towards the bedroom. "You're going to eat them while I fuck you so good you scream my name." Mila is desperate for money. So desperate she is willing to do anything to get it and has tried most things. She reaches the end of hope that she will get the the necessary amount in time to take care of the person who needs it, until she remembers her life insurance. The life insurance she gets through her work could cover everything, the only issue being it requires her death and a suicide-clause means she can't do it herself. Desperate enough to sacrifice her life, she finds hiring someone to do it too expensive and one night while drunk, she turns to her superstitious roots and tries to summon a demon to do the deed for her. "Cold metal was the first thing that I felt against my skin. Then came the sensation of being strapped down by my wrists and ankles. Why was I strapped down? My eyes blinked open slowly, in a daze. I saw men and women in surgical gear running around wildly. The blare of alarm pierced the fog around my mind and I saw emergency lights flashing. What was happening? I saw a woman, her brown eyes wild with fear, undo the straps on my wrists and legs. My head fell to the side and I witnessed one man pounce on the other, then a squirt of blood shoot high into the air as the first man bit into the others neck. I couldn't move without serious concentration, and even then, I could only move a little. I was helpless as I lay on this metal table. I knew that I was going to die. I was an easy target. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevibility of the man to attack me. Nothing came though, and when I cracked my eyes open, I was alone in the room. What? Just then, I heard a loud bang and I saw a man with a gun burst through the door, an infected woman, the one who had just untied me, leaping at him. They fell into the table I was on, and the entire thing flipped. I was tossed onto the ground, landing hard. He watched as her eyes skimmed over his dark eyes and black hair with barely a reaction. He felt his pride twinge a bit so he went further. Lifting his hands, he let the blood drip from them. Her eyes widened slightly and her chin rose. She looked at his hands then back at him. His dark eyes gleamed in a challenge. "You've not harmed me or mine, faery." She spoke out loud. "Blood does not scare me and neither do you. Keep your dog on its leash." Then she turned and calmly walked back inside. Intrigued now, he went to the window of the house and watched as she reassured her mother that the dog was gone "I'll see you tonight, reckless child." He promised softly. **** Marcus felt himself beginning to wake and struggled to stay in the dream. But it was no use. His eyes opened and he released the pillow his hand was gripping. It was the same one that she had laid her head on every night. His head went into the pillow heavily for a moment, breathing in her faint scent. He hated and treasured dreams like that with equal fervor. He rolled over on his back and stared at the ceiling. It had been decades since she'd been forced to break that promise. He lifted his hand and touched the ring that had been her last gift. It had been decades, but it was yesterday. ***I did not skimp on the steamy scenes so consider yourselves warned ok?
