Back on Earth, people print things like action figures and cars and houses but no one, to Commander Sage May's knowledge, has ever printed a spacecraft. And for good reason: no one is crazy enough to ride off to the vacuum of space in a 3D-printed vehicle. The technology is good, but not that good. Marooned in deep space after her spacecraft Orion's catastrophic encounter with a micro-meteorite, Commander May is now pinning all her hopes of survival on that piece of technology and she HAS to believe it is that good. Written for GE's Adventures in Science contest based on "Our Place in Space" 2,406 words Update: "Printing Orion" was selected by GE Global Research Chief Scientist James Bray as one of the winners of the contest. Yay! Thanks, GE! ^_^
