*Prequel to The Hybrids, Doesn't have to be read in order*
The new lighting in our bustling town added warmth, I guess you could call it the city of lights.
Nicolette Bellerose lived in Paris, France during the Victorian Era (1889 to be exact) and had a beautiful big house with many rules. Even though she would much rather play with the boys, she has to dress elegantly constantly and remember her lady manners and posture. One of the things that came with living a good life in those days was finding, and marrying the right man--one that had enough money to support you and your family. When she finally meets the man she has heard so much about ever since she was little, she doesn't mind the idea as much. That is until she meets Greyson Pierce LeBeau who is hiding dark secrets about his past. But what if he isn't the man that they talk about in ghost stories, what if his smile lit up a room and he made you feel as if you were floating. What if he was like anyone else, working in several mills just to support his family. What if every time you walked down the streets of Paris with the newly built Eiffel tower's lights shining down all around you it was like an adventure. What if you could break all the rules from the life you know, would you do it?

"Are you ever afraid of being alone?" I asked after a while. A question that had randomly popped into my mind. I wasn't expecting him to answer me, but he did. Jonah turned his face, but I didn't look back at him, I kept staring up at the skies. He turned back to the sky and took a breather before answering. "We're always going to be alone, Rose. Always. We'll be haunted by the darkness that is our own shadow, but in every shadow there's a light." He answered, as if the simplest thing in the world. I only stared at him with a dropped jaw. That was out of this world. Especially coming from Jonah. "When does it get better?" I mumbled. "It doesn't. But to go through it with someone makes it a whole lot easier." He turned back to face me. We stared at each other for a while. He'd always occasionally look down at my lips, and I'd do the same to him. I broke it off and looked back up at the sky. -=- New York City. The place of opportunities. But what shall Rose do when there's so many of them? Jonah, the seducer with a British accent, or Cameron, equally British but sweet. Her clock is ticking. She has one year to make up her mind until the exchange program takes back all their Brits and their New Yorkers return. And so the end-of-the-year party is the final strike. Either Rose chooses...or she doesn't. *WARNING* I began this book (my first book ever) when I was like 11 or 12 years old so the first chapters (idk how many) suck, not gonna lie. I had scrapped so many ideas (that I only really wrote a few chapters of) that when I was older enough to realize the story I had going so far sucked, I didn't want to scrap again, so I finished for that sake in a span of 3 years (and ended in 2014). All in all, not my greatest work, but read on if you wish. Text Copyright © droppedintoxic™ 2014

But when gusts of wind quake their pitiful selves, in form of new opportunities and of course men, Kiki and Nicole wonder why the painter suddenly decided upon subdued tints? ********** Nicole could distinctively make out the intonations of her heartbeat. It was no smooth asphalt, nor was it pleasing. It was entirely the opposite. She imagined a rugged chassis and deep-rooted crevices upon a rocky road. A dangerous road trip. She feared that her heart might give out. Her legs already were a noodly pair, holding onto her dress for support. It was clear that Nicole's mind was a soiled pool of water. It just wasn't functional anymore. Jane Austen would be disappointed, and so would her mother. Nicole was never the forward type of woman. She always thought of herself as demure as a sun's glow right before the full onset of night. Her wanton behavior today was a surprise on her side and she more than willingly blamed it on the cheery night and maybe on the way Wayne's minty breath hit her exposed clavicle like one inclement wind upon feeble branches of a tree.

Primrose was raised to be a perfect little girl her whole life, at a young age she was raised to perfection, kitten heels, dresses and manners of a lady. She met a boy named Xavier in preschool, a skinny little boy with glasses, she grew fond of the funny little boy and they became good friends despite his family being short of money. When Primrose was 8 and Xavier was 9 years old Xavier's Fathers business hit the jackpot and went sky high making them one of the richest families in the country. He moved away leaving primrose in her perfectly controlled life. Years passed, Xavier changed in every way possible, he got contact lenses and his hair grew darker with age and he was toned and covered in tattoos. He was unrecognisable. Primrose however hadn't changed one bit, she had light blonde hair with soft curls and bright green eyes. She still wore perfect prim dresses and kitten heels and held herself like a lady and was kind to everyone even the worst of people. When Xavier returned to his home town at 19 he recognised primrose who is now 18. However she didn't recognise him. (TW: I have made this story mature for very small reasons such as how her father treats her and her mother and it may be upsetting to some so please be mindful of this when reading the story. There is also bullying and controlling behaviour mentioned. Otherwise it's pretty PG within the book)
