Briar has always known two worlds: Earth and Oradeaux. In the first, she's the best tattoo artist in Michigan, creating beauty on the skin of her customers, bringing the ink alive. After all, magic has been a part of Briar's existence since the christening in Oradeaux that went so horribly wrong. A dark fairy scorned, a curse, and a broken twenty-four year old that just can't get a good night's sleep. Briar lives on Earth during her waking hours, but at night as she dreams, she walks in Oradeaux, where a second life awaits her filled with dragons, fairy godmothers, her betrothed Prince Phillip, and the dwarf, Domino La'rourk, Briar's best friend and bodyguard. Her twenty-fifth birthday is fast approaching, and according to the gossiping maid staff, Briar will have to choose which world to keep. Both are real to Briar, and filled with people she'll never see again. Domino would never blame her for leaving, but her kingdom might, and on Earth she'd be abandoning Zoey, her girlfriend of three years, and an amazing tattoo career. To some, it may seem an easy choice, but to Briar nothing has ever been harder. And if she doesn't pick, she'll lose everything instead. Two lives, a cursed princess, and a wronged fairy add up to a powerful story about choice and leaving behind those you love. Can Briar get out unscathed? Or will she be doomed to a half life, with painful memories of those left behind? Sleeping Dawn is a Young Adult coming-of-age novel, retelling the centuries old story of Sleeping Beauty with polyamory, bisexuals, street magic, and all the fairy tale tropes you can handle. (40,000 words, stand-alone.)
