King Maxon and Queen America have an eighteen year old son, Raylon, who despises the idea of a selection but doesn't want to disappoint his family.

Ashlar Wells is one of the most rebellious and carefree sixteen year old girl in Angeles.
Her mother, Marlee, competed in the selection for Prince Maxon, and was best friends with Lady America- who is now Queen of Illea.
Because they were so close, she and her husband were invited to live in the palace with the royal family and were named Duke and Duchess of Illea.
Ashlar is against all of the government rules and ways. She wants no part in the royal family- especially Prince Raylon. She wishes to be free of the palace and waits until her seventeen birthday to make her escape.
But when Raylon's twin sister, Princess Elli enters her name in the selection, and is choosen by random, her plans change.
