There used to be this ancient, deteriorating billboard outside of my high school. The display screen was shattered and merely half of the letters illuminated, yet no one endeavored to fix it.

We all knew it was wasting away and we simply let it rot, eventually collapsing on itself. Back then, although it was only last year I attended high school, I thought nothing of that debilitated sign. Now, it stands prominent in my mind.

I felt as if I was corroding as the sign did and everyone neighboring me could see it, although they chose to be ignorant of it. They allowed me to deteriorate, sinking lower and lower into my melancholy feelings. There was a certain numbness nonchalantly consuming me and I feared that once it lavished me, I'd merely be another pretty face that disappeared after a few, minuscule moments of fame. I would fade into a nonbeing darkness and fade from the minds of the general public as well.

I knew that if something miraculously jubilant occurred, I might feel that joy once again. I wasn't expecting that event to be spilling pipping coffee on your Nirvana shirt subsequent to bumping into you.
