"I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end...It doesn't even matter." Hazel is a fire. And the spark started the day she met Gilbert Write. It's been a year since they've met, and Hazel is simply depressed. After Social Services are involved with her family, she feels like she doesn't belong anywhere, or to anyone. Except in Illinois. With the Dickens. But that dream almost seems out of reach. She's struggling to find a purpose any more. Even with all the perks, the situation she faces seems too hard to deal with. As she considers many options, she slowly loses her fire. She stops trying. Gilbert is back in her life, and she is struggling even more. She has a small flame left because of Sam, and coming home to him is her one and only wish. It's all she has left to fight for. Gilbert is making decisions even harder, and after re-living the day they met, she is stuck in a world of questions. Will she make it before her flame goes out?
