Dan is, in his own words, a "hardcore punk". And Dan has a hatred towards Phil because Phil is just a cinnamon roll that tries to be punk, but everyone knows he's just a rich boy. And Dan can't even understand why the world hates him so much when he's partnered up with Phil for a semester long project. Because Phil may be more popular but Dan certainly thinks he's cooler.
