Prince Nicholas is the third and youngest prince of Cathyador.  Being the youngest means you are not needed.  So therefore, he traveled away to find his place in the world.  At his brothers' advice, and a rather bad one, he went to become the royal guard of Princess Clarabella of Beryortha.

Princess Clarabella is haunted by the death of her parents and brother, a tyrannic prince, as well as the betrayals of her sister, her tutors, and her maid from three years ago.  Distraught over her losses, she haven't been happy ever since.

When Nicholas passed the tests and became her guard, he resolved to find a way for her to be happy again, but even as he tries, enemies from Clarabella's past came back to haunt her once more.
