L who has only ever read folders about Light Yagami (whom he believes is Kira) and he has never seen a picture of him takes a part time position at Tokyo university under the name of Dr Ryuzaki Saito, whilst the Kira investigation is in a lull. When looking for a teacher to take classes whilst he works on the investigation he meets Akio Kurosawa (Light under a synonym, trying to hide from his nemesis the mysterious L). As Ryuzaki and Akio become closer, Kira and L fall into a heated battle. When Light is taken into the investigation by his father the beautiful world that Ryuzaki and Akio had built comes crashing down around Kira and L's feet.
