It is the year 1557, young girls of noble and rich class are in a hurry to be wed. Alliances are being made. Something is in the air and it's the treacherous politics of the current rulers of the European countries. But a betrothed pair is in the rise of becoming what Europe will see as the most powerful King and Queen. But first, they must get through all the lies and dishonesty in their court, deal with certain darkness that curls around their people. And most of all, they must learn to trust each other. • "What do you see?" "Great darkness and a war that will forever taint the soil of Europe." "But there is hope?" "Yes. Hope that your son makes the right decision, not only for his country but for himself." • A queen with her own right, Adelaide of Scotland has been a guest to the court of France for her engagement to their crown prince and has been residing within their walls for safety ever since the agreement of marriage at the young age of six. Although they both knew of their betrothal, Prince William Francis has ignored the possibility of marrying his best friend for the sake of alliance and security, instead, gallivanted off and managed to get his heart stolen by a simple noble girl. He's torn between duty and what he supposes is a sisterly love for Adelaide and the urge to protect her, and what he thinks is true love. If only he knew that all this time Adelaide has loved him from the very beginning and it wasn't just politics for her country, not anymore. With the luring threat of England just around the corner, assassination attempts here and there, betrayals and lies, will they pull through and be the rulers they were prophesied to be? Will they be Europe's reigning rulers, but at what cost?

Christopher was a bit surprised by her action as she matched his stare. It seemed like she was challenging him to look away first. His lips curled up in a smirk, and she smiled at him, but neither of them looked away from each other.
