This is a very strange story I think. It's not taking place in this time, or maybe not even in this world, you decide. When you read, notice that "The storyteller" know as little as the protagonist does, so in this story there are some strange words that you might not understand so here comes some of them:

"magical monster"=ice cream truck.
"silver man"=robot.
"some kind of invisible wall"=window.
"hard and silvery material"=steel.
