Dean and Sam had another falling out causing Dean to go hunt a vampire nest in Mystic Falls Virginia on his own. Following a lead he stumbles on a vampire with a human companion. She saves his life and unexpectedly becomes tangled in the hunters lives. Sam struggles with his emotions hoping they both can find some kind of happiness in their dark world.
Elena and Stefan come closer then ever after a run in with the Winchesters and a devastating loss. They find solace and escape in one another as they venture on a road trip ironically to forget their emotions.
Katherine Pierce has been living discretely but a monster is tormenting the streets of New Orleans and she finds herself once again working with Stefan her old flame and her irritating doppleganger. Only this time they've made intriguing friends, which may affect Kats agenda. The drama and tensions soar as everyone tries to avoid even the slightest 'glimpse beyond the illusion' they have created to protect themselves.
