Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a disorder brought on by continuous abuse: Sexual, Physical, Verbal etc... It is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities (personalities) are present in an individual. In its most basic definition, these various 'alters', though we prefer the term 'parts', take complete control in an effort to protect the individual. In some cases they take on more extreme roles and protect those around them, as well.The person will have little to no memory of these happenings.
