Short scene from Broken:
I lay on my bed stiffly, my body slightly curled into a ball as if protecting myself from the evil surrounding me. I can feel the coldness of the morning air, slithering its way through the cracks in the paper thin walls, and wrapping itself around my exposed skin. I shiver, pulling my blanket over my head like a cocoon, propelling myself into darkness. I welcome it, because it seems to me that darkness is the only thing that can't judge you or hurt you. People are afraid of the dark and they are scared of the secrets that it holds, so they create devices that bring light, burning out the darkness until it is merely a shadow. But not me. Over the years I have grown quite acquainted with the darkness. For me, it feels like home.
