"Excuse me?"
"Son," I repeated again. "Aiden isn't my little brother - he's my son." I waited for the disapproval look, the pitiful tone in her voice, and the shame rolling down her face for being a dad at 18 but that was it; I received none.
"Okay, then son. He's very well behaved for a kid. He's actually the first to have gotten that close to me since I'm not humans."
My heart quivered. Anticipating the worst degrading put downs and dirty looks she could ever give me, I instead get complimented.
And that was a first for me.
