Lady Downer absolutely loath the Baroness for treating people like pawns. A woman like Baroness was a vain, obnoxious and egocentric person who had many young men fell into her traps and suffer great financial losses and heartbreak. It was no secret that the Baron had a long chain of mistresses but it gave her no right to practice 'all' means necessary to catch her husband's attention.
When young Mr. Benton gets publicly humiliated by her at the ball. Lady Downer impulsively decides to take the matters in her own hands and help Mr. Benton out of this unpleasant situation. This shocks the audience and a society's gossips starts to ring. Much to Lady Downer's dismay, her 'help' is not well received by Mr. Benton and gets blamed for 'intervening' without permission.
Although the Baroness seems to amused by the 'ball episode', the tables turned against her when an age old secret affair between Mr. Themlington and herself resurfaced in the midst of an announcement for the wedding between Mr. Themlington and Miss Evans (Baron's former mistress).
As the tensions and drama heightens amongst the elite circle, who will manage to bail themselves out of this mess?
