She crashed through his back gate. She didn’t know if he would be there, but she thought he might. He was. He lay on the grass like he had nearly a year ago. The parallelism startled her. He looked up for a moment before returning to his steady gaze on the stars. She was offended. She was outraged. Infuriated. And terrified. “Ahem?” “Did I do something to offend you?” She could see his breathing struggling to stay controlled and his fists tightening. He still did not respond. “If this is about Aiden, I can explain, it’s really not what you think, but, but you have to talk to me!” Her voice was bordering hysteria; she could feel the mad desperation creeping up her throat. Silence followed. It’s was maddening, it was enough to drive someone insane. It was as if someone had given you the world and had it stripped from you, a familiar feeling. Her fingers found the locket that still hung around her neck, after three years… “….do you even love me anymore?” She murmured, not truly wanting to believe what she had just asked, nor did she want this answer.

"Aiden, is it true?" My voice trembled as I searched his cold, distant gaze, feeling the ground shift beneath me. Tears blurred my vision, but I fought to focus, desperate for him to deny the accusations. I needed him to assure me that the man I had loved since college had not betrayed me. I wiped my cheeks and grasped his hands, the warmth of our shared moments now a painful memory. "Please, Aiden... say something." For a heartbeat, silence enveloped us, thick and suffocating. Then, his voice sliced through the stillness, sharp and devoid of emotion. "Isla, I'm sorry. But what you've heard... it's true." Time seemed to freeze as disbelief crashed over me like a tidal wave. His words lingered in the air, cold and final, as I searched his eyes for the warmth that once danced there. But all I found was emptiness. Where had the man I loved gone? How had everything we built vanished in an instant?
