After the war 150 years ago, the population became limited. The government controlled everything, right down to the death date on your tombstone. 
Everyone now sees death as a community service, a way to keep the country organized and healthy.
Naturally, I was never afraid of death, but as the hours ticked into minutes that ticked into seconds that counted down until my death, I started a slow panic. I said my good-byes and then sat in my apartment so I could die, alone.
but there's just one thing.
I never died.
